Embedded Photo Metadata#

Photos produced by Parrot drones embed both standard and custom metadata, including image capture and drone flight metadata, synchronized with the picture acquisition time, both in JPEG and DNG (raw) formats.

As in most photo files, the metadata use the Exchangeable image file format (Exif) version 2.31 and the ISO 16684-1 Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) standards. Some of the tags are standard, others are comonly used by multiple camera manufacturers and some are custom Parrot tags (only in XMP).

To read the metadata in both JPEG and DNG photo files, standard tools such as the exiv2 library and tools can be used. After installing the exiv2 package on your system, the metadata can be listed using the following command:

$ exiv2 -pa file.jpg

The following tables list the available metadata for various drone models.

Any additional metadata present and not supported by the application must be ignored. Some of these elements may not be present in a file. For example, the location may be unknown.
